Delhi Polls: Atishi Warns of Power Cuts Under BJP

Delhi Faces Power Cuts as BJP Takes Charge, Atishi Raises Concerns

Just days after the BJP’s sweeping victory in the Delhi Assembly elections, former Chief Minister Atishi has alleged that the city’s power supply is already deteriorating. She claimed that the power sector was well-managed and continuously monitored under AAP’s governance. Still, within three days of BJP taking charge, the situation has worsened, leading to frequent power cuts in various parts of the city.

Atishi’s Allegations Against BJP

Speaking at a press conference, Atishi criticized the BJP, accusing them of mismanaging Delhi’s power infrastructure. She stated that over 40 power outages had been reported across different areas, forcing residents to purchase inverters.

“The BJP wants to turn Delhi into Uttar Pradesh, where power cuts lasting several hours are common. The BJP doesn’t know how to govern efficiently, and if this continues, Delhi will soon face long blackouts like UP,” she alleged.

She further claimed that AAP had built a robust electricity system that ensured uninterrupted power supply to Delhi residents. However, she fears that under the BJP, the power situation could deteriorate, affecting businesses, hospitals, and daily life.

BJP Yet to Respond

Despite Atishi’s strong statements, the BJP has not yet issued an official response to these allegations. The party is forming its government in Delhi after securing 48 out of 70 seats in the February 5 elections. This victory marks the BJP’s return to power in the national capital after nearly three decades.

Delhi’s Political Shift and Future Challenges

The recent elections saw a fierce contest between AAP and BJP, with Congress failing to make any significant impact despite its efforts. AAP, which had previously dominated Delhi politics, saw a significant decline in its seat share, while BJP’s return signals a major shift in governance.

Arvind Kejriwal, AAP’s national convenor, has accepted the election results and vowed to serve as a constructive opposition. However, AAP leaders, including Atishi, are already raising concerns about BJP’s governance, particularly in areas like power supply, public services, and infrastructure.

As BJP celebrates its first major electoral win of 2025, all eyes are now on how it will handle governance in Delhi. With Bihar elections coming up later this year, the party will also be looking to maintain its momentum on the national stage.
