India kicked off their Badminton Asia Mixed Team Championship 2025 campaign by dominating 5-0 over Macau in their opening Group D match on Wednesday. With this win, India secured a spot in the quarterfinals and will face Korea on Thursday in their final group-stage encounter.
India’s Dominant Performance
The match started on a strong note as the mixed doubles pair of Sathish Kumar Karunakaran and Aadya Variyath, fresh from their National Games gold medal win, outclassed Iok Chong Leong and Weng Chi Ng 21-10, 21-9.
In the men’s singles, Lakshya Sen, a 2021 World Championships bronze medallist, continued India’s dominance with a 21-16, 21-12 victory over Pang Fong Pui, making it 2-0 for India.
Bansod Seals the Tie, Doubles Pairs Finish Strong
Malvika Bansod, the 2024 Hylo Open finalist, sealed the tie for India with a commanding 21-15, 21-9 win against Hao Wai Chan in women’s singles.
The men’s doubles duo of Chirag Shetty and MR Arjun defeated Chin Pon Pui and Kok Wen Vong 21-15, 21-19, further asserting India’s supremacy.
Finally, the women’s doubles team of Teresa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand, ranked world number 9, wrapped up the match in style, thrashing NG Weng Chi and Pui Chi Wa 21-10, 21-5 in the final game.
